What is delirium?
Delirium is a condition characterized by acute widespread disturbance of higher cerebral function in response to a variety of systemic and neurological insults. Delirium is a common clinical condition and the coexistence of underlying systemic illnesses can esily obscure its contribution to the patient's presentation. Although the recognition and optimal management of delirium is a common and important problem facing the clinican, most of the available information on delirium comes from studies in the setting of the hospital ward.
